Gasabo 3D contracted to supervise Kamembe Airport upgrade project

The kamembe airport upgrade project by the Rwanda Civil Aviation has awarded a supervision contract to Gasabo 3D in partnership with STUDI a Tunisian engineering services firm. The main 6 month contract was awarded to China Road and Bridge Corporation.

The civil and related works for the up grade involves resurfacing the runway, upgrading the taxiway, apron and airfield marking to make the airport secure and attractive.

The airport upgrade project will play a big role in boosting the country’s tourism sector, according to sector experts.

The upgrade project is expected to cost approx Rwf 5.1 billion.
“Upon completion Kamembe airport is expected to handle more than 30,000 passengers annually; We expect this number to not only increase but also we can now guarantee the safety of passengers”, Tony Barigye, the RCAA, communication manager, said.

The Kamembe airport upgrade project is expected to play a crucial role in promoting trade between Rwanda and DR Congo.
